Package of measures “Professional Child Protection in Carinthian Elementary Education”

The competent department, sub-department of elementary education, is accompanied and supported with expert knowledge in dealing with problematic child protection cases in elementary educational institutions. Regular further training courses on child protection content are held by the Child Protection Unit in individual elementary education facilities.

Together with the responsible sub-department for elementary education, an implementation strategy for quality development in child protection in elementary education is developed through regular planning and working meetings in interdepartmental cooperation (nationwide further training and development and implementation of child protection concepts). In addition, the sub-department of elementary education, which is in charge, receives professional support in raising basic awareness and increasing competence in child protection issues.

Aim of the Good Practice

Making elementary educational institutions safe and development-friendly places for children. Strengthening the child protection competence of all persons working in elementary education facilities. Raising awareness of child protection issues in elementary education. Supporting the sub-department for the elementary education of Dept. 6 of the Carinthian Government in dealing with strategic child protection issues through the Centre for Quality Development in Child Protection.

All persons working in elementary educational institutions and the responsible planning and steering bodies at the administrative level.

The measure is a long-term, ongoing, formative (learning) process in coordination with the addressed system of elementary education and its responsibilities.

Evaluation of the Good Practice

The success of the measure is largely dependent on the willingness and accessibility of the addressees from the elementary education system. Currently, an implementation strategy for quality development in child protection in elementary education is being developed through regular planning and working meetings in interdepartmental cooperation, as well as a basic sensitization and increase in competence of the responsible planning and steering authority at the administrative level.
