Municipal Policy for Comprehensive Health Care for Children and Adolescents

The Technical Area (TA) of Child and Adolescent Health aims to develop political and technical guidelines for comprehensive health care for children aged zero to nine years and adolescents aged 10 to 20 years, to support their implementation in the municipality of São Paulo and coordinate, supervise and evaluate actions to promote and provide comprehensive health care for children and adolescents, in accordance with the principles and guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the SUS, which presuppose a commitment to providing quality of life for that children and adolescents can grow and develop to their full potential.

To this end, it organized various actions and services that were being constructed and developed using the latest techniques within the Municipal Policy for Comprehensive Attention to Child and Adolescent Health. Among the policy’s strategic axes, it is worth highlighting: Surveillance of vaccination coverage; Comprehensive care for children and adolescents with prevalent conditions and chronic diseases; Health care for children and adolescents with disabilities or in specific and vulnerable situations; Comprehensive care for children and adolescents in situations of violence, accident prevention and promotion of a culture of peace; and Surveillance and prevention of infant and fetal death. Additionally, it is worth highlighting, within the scope of this policy, the Health at School Program, implemented in partnership with the Municipal Department of Education, which is currently focused on Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases among children and adolescents.

Evaluation of the Good Practice

It is carried out by the Technical Area for Child and Adolescent Health, but the office monitors the implementation of new actions through the SUS management instruments, such as the Annual Management Report.

Regional Health Coordinations, Health Equipment, and also Social Assistance, Education and Human Rights equipment that are also part of the Municipal Early Childhood policy.
