The Horta da Gente Program is promoted by the Social Solidarity Fund and carried out in the Tietê-Barueri Ecological Park, under the responsibility of the Department of the Environment. This program seeks the social reintegration of homeless residents through organic agriculture and hydroponics. The food produced in the garden makes up a ‘green basket’ that is delivered to scholarship holders and vulnerable families registered in the municipality’s social assistance system, through an exchange for recyclable materials. This ‘green basket’ complements the monthly basic food basket that these families receive and encourages municipal selective collection. The recyclables are delivered to the cooperative that has an agreement with the City Hall. The project has already received more than 120 scholarship holders and has benefited more than 1,000 families, plus the 65 families of the recycling cooperative.
