Crisis Intervention Center, Child Protection Center

(V.D.05) Safety, (V.D.10) Vulnerable Families

The child protection centers and crisis intervention centers offer support when children and adolescents are impaired or endangered in their development due to their respective life circumstances, be it physical, psychological, or sexual violence.
Within the framework of structured needs and development planning for the area of child and youth welfare in Carinthia, concrete planning and expansion steps for the next year and further planning periods were determined.

This was done in the sense of a strategic guideline as a basis for the needs-oriented continuous optimization of the support systems and services in the field of child and youth welfare on the basis of scientific data and facts as well as socio-political framework conditions.

Position/Job Title of person presenting the Good Practice

Head of Sub- Department Child and Youth Welfare

Aim of the Good Practice

The aim is to strengthen families with their children and adolescents so that they can grow up healthily. The services offered by the child protection centers are free of charge, confidential and, if desired, anonymous. The help is unbureaucratic and oriented towards the best interests of the child. A report to the child and youth welfare agency is only obligatory if there is knowledge of violence against children or adolescents and the help of the child protection centers is not sufficient.

Target Group of the Good Practice

Crisis intervention centers are a place to go for children and young people aged 4 to 18 who are in various emergency and crisis situations. The family and/or the reference system are always involved in the care of the children and adolescents. The child protection centers offer support when children and adolescents are impaired or endangered in their development due to their respective life circumstances, be it physical, psychological, or sexual violence.

Implementation period

Currently, there are crisis intervention centers in Klagenfurt, Spittal an der Drau, and Wolfsberg. The crisis intervention center in Wolfsberg, as well as the child protection center in Spittal an der Drau, were made possible by a generous EU rural development funding program, for which Department 4 is operationally responsible. Further centers are planned. There is no time limit. The offer is to be expanded in the long term.

Consistency over time

The demand has been there for years and is steadily increasing. The Corona pandemic has also led to an increase in a variety of problems within families with children, which is why the offer must continue to be available in the future.

Evaluation of the Good Practice

The offers are continuously evaluated and proven but also new methods are applied. Further development in relation to the different and changing needs of families and children is essential.

Key stakeholders and partnerships
