The Municipal Health Department has been carrying out continuous work of dispensing wheelchairs, bath chairs, orthoses, footwear, insoles, crutches, canes, walkers, and hearing aids in order to guarantee the quality of the services provided by the CERs (Specialized Center for Rehabilitation). The Specialized Rehabilitation Centers (CER) integrate the various rehabilitation modalities (physical, auditory, intellectual, and visual) and have a multidisciplinary team that performs diagnosis, treatment, concession, adaptation, and maintenance of Assistive Technology, becoming a reference for the health care network in the territory. To request any of the equipment mentioned above, the user needs to go to the Basic Health Unit (UBS) closest to his/her residence so that it can be forwarded to a CER, where it will undergo a multidisciplinary evaluation. From this assessment, the team identifies the rehabilitation needs and which device is most suitable. Once the prescription is completed, the entire flow is explained to the patient and/or caregiver. This dispensation is part of the rehabilitation process, as in addition to providing a better quality of life, it enables greater autonomy, independence, participation, and exercise of their rights in society. With this, it also helps families who have a person with a disability.
